This is a sanctioned Volksmarching event sponsored by the Tarrant County Walkers.
Registration will be set up at the Tom Thumb at 3000 Hulen St. (Trinity Commons Shopping Center). Please park at the back of the lot so as to not keep grocery shoppers from accessing the store.
You are required to register at the start. Registration costs $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at checkpoints your card will be marked.
You can register anytime between 7am and 10am. Usually the start is 8-11 but due to the heat index we figured everyone would like the opportunity to start while it was cooler.
This is not a speed event. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.
When you finish (anytime before 1pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.
If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.
Foster Park and Overton Park are great examples of urban parks, maintained by the City of Fort Worth. Originally part of the Edwards Ranch, founded in 1846, the parks were formed when the Edwards family donated lands for Trinity Park, then later Overton Park, and the surrounding neighborhoods. Foster Park runs along a cat-tailed filled creek. Several species of birds and other wildlife can be seen along the trails.
The walk will be on paved trails, mostly flat. Trails are marked and walkers are provided maps.
