Waring Walking Tour – Oct 26th

The Hill Country Volkssportsverein is hosting two 5k and 10k walks at Waring, an unincorporated community,  eight miles southwest of Comfort, TX.  Founded in 1887 the community was originally called Waringford.  The name was changed to just Waring in 1901.

One route is called “Big Joshua” and it follows a lightly traveled paved county road which crosses the Big Joshua Creek three times before returning to the start along the same county road.

The other route is called “Little Joshua” and it follows Old No. 9 a short distance to a well maintained dirt county road. Most of the route parallels the Little Joshua Creek until intersecting the route of the Old Spanish Trail. It follows the OST for a short distance before returning to the start point along the same route.

To participate in either of these events you are required to register at the start.  Registration is anytime from 8 am – until noon.  Registration costs $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at checkpoints your card will be marked.

This is not a speed competition. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.

When you finish (anytime before 3 pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.

If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.
