All are welcome to celebrate the revival of walking in the picturesque town of Fredericksburg, TX. Volksmarching in America began when the first internationally sanctioned walk in the USA was held in Fredericksburg in June 1976 as part of the nation’s Bicentennial Celebration.
More than 200 participants came from far and wide to have their Distance
and Events books officially stamped. Most of those taking part had been
introduced to the popular weekend walks being held all across Europe.
Almost immediately new Volkssport clubs were organized elsewhere in
Texas and across the country.
Start/Finish point and registration: Kinder Halle, behind the Vereins Kirche Museum,
(near the playground) at 100 W. Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78264
START TIME: 6:00am – 10:00am. Must be finished by 2:00 PM.
This is a Volksmarching event and you need to register to get a start card. We request a $3.00 donation to help defray the cost of hosting the event.
This is not a speed event. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.
When you finish (anytime before 2:00 PM) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.
If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.
