(Quihi is pronounced quee hee). Quihi was founded in 1844 by Henry Castro on the banks of Quihi Creek. Quihi was the first county seat of Medina County. The post office opened in 1854 and closed in 1872. Quihi is listed as a Ghost Town. All the remains is the church and a dance hall.
This is not a speed event. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.
All are welcome to come walk with us. Both 5K & 10K walks will be on roads similar to that shown above.

START TIME: 8 a.m. until 11. Finish by 3 p.m.
This is a Volksmarching event and you need to register to get a start card. We request a $3.00 donation to help defray the cost of hosting the event.
When you finish (anytime before 11:30) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.
If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.
Directions to Walk Location: From Hondo, take FM 2676 east. From Castroville, take US 90 west to FM 4516 and turn right, just past the Alsace Hotel. Follow FM 4516 to the left all the way to Quihi. GPS: 29.39395,-99.02947
