The route is considered easy and is on city sidewalks and low-traveled city streets. The route meanders past historic landmarks and sites, through many tree-covered streets, and the beautiful historic St. Louis Catholic Church. The routes are suitable for strollers. The 10km route will also include walking through beautiful Castroville Regional Park and along the scenic Medina River and much more! There are many excellent restaurants from which to choose including American, Alsatian cuisine, Mexican and fast food. Walkers can enjoy shopping at the many gift and collectible shops in town.
This is not a speed event. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors. All are welcome to come walk with us.
Start/Finish point and registration: Castroville Chamber of Commerce Building, 1115 Angelo, Castroville, TX 78009.
START TIME: 8:00 – 11:30. Walkers must be off trails by 2:30 p.m.
This is a Volksmarching event and you need to register to get a start card. We request a $3.00 per person donation to help defray the cost of hosting the event.
When you finish (anytime before 2 p.m.) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter and have an Event and/or Distance Record Book you will receive a stamp in your record books.
If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.
Directions to Walk Location: From San Antonio go West on US-90. Castroville is about 14 miles from Loop-410 and 10.6 miles from Loop-1604. Continue through Castroville, go over the bridge at the Medina River and the Chamber building is located on the right at the corner of US-90 and Angelo Street. The only blinking yellow light in town is at this corner. To park, turn right on Angelo and go two blocks to Houston Square where there is ample parking. The short walk to and from Houston Square to the Chamber Building is included in the walk distance credit.
