Waring Walking Events – Sat-Sun Oct 25-26

IMG_0004The Hill Country Volkssportsverein is hosting two 5k and 10k walks at Waring, an unincorporated community,  eight miles southwest of Comfort, TX.  Founded in 1887 the community was originally called Waringford.  The name was changed to just Waring in 1901.

One route is called “Camp Capers Caper” and it is on the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas fabulous Camp Capers property.  The trail is along dirt roads and well-mowed paths with scenic views.  Twice the walk will be along the Guadalupe River following shaded paths.

This is not a speed event. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.  All are welcome to come walk with us.

Start/Finish point and registration:  Castroville Chamber of Commerce Building, 1115 Angelo, Castroville, TX 78009.

START TIME: 8:00 – 11:30.   Walkers must be off trails by 2:30 p.m.

This is a Volksmarching event and you need to register to get a start card. We request a $3.00 per person donation to help defray the cost of hosting the event.

When you finish (anytime before 2 p.m.) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter and have an Event and/or Distance Record Book you will receive a stamp in your record books.

If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.

Directions to Walk Location:   From San Antonio go West on US-90. Castroville is about 14 miles from Loop-410 and 10.6 miles from Loop-1604. Continue through Castroville, go over the bridge at the Medina River and the Chamber building is located on the right at the corner of US-90 and Angelo Street. The only blinking yellow light in town is at this corner. To park, turn right on Angelo and go two blocks to Houston Square where there is ample parking. The short walk to and from Houston Square to the Chamber Building is included in the walk distance credit.
