Prospect and Purgatory Volksmarch (San Marcos) Sat 02/28/15

The San Marcos River Walkers are hosting a 5k walk and a 10k walk next weekend.  The 10K route goes through a neighborhood to Prospect Park, through the Park and into Purgatory Creek Natural Area.  Purgatory has some short hills and rocky paths in a few places. A walking stick is recommended for the 10km. The 5km trail is on residential streets and in Prospect Park only and is suitable for baby strollers.

To participate in either of these walking events you are required to register at the start.  Registration is anytime from 8 am – until 11am.  Registration costs $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at checkpoints your card will be marked.

This is not a speed competition. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.

When you finish (anytime before 3 pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.

If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.
