Brady and San Saba are two small communities in Central Texas. They are the host locations this year for the annual Texas Volkssport Association Reunion Events. Each town will have a 5K and a 10K walk option on Saturday.
Brady: the geographic center of Texas stakes its claim as the “Heart of Texas“. The Walks pass historic sites, Heart of Texas Country Music Museum, a city park, and athletic fields.
San Saba: claims to be the “Pecan Capital of Texas” and the walks pass historic homes, churches, and the county courthouse. Walks will include city parks and nature trails.
These two towns are 41 miles apart on Hwy 190. If you are really athletic you could walk 20K this Saturday: 10K in each town. Or get a small sample of the each town by doing the 5K in each.
To participate in either of these walking events you are required to register at the start. Registration is anytime from 8 am – until 11am. Registration costs $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at checkpoints your card will be marked.
This is not a speed competition. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.
When you finish (anytime before 3 pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.
If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.
