Historic Farmington Volksmarch Sat 03/14/2015

The Plano Walkers are hosting a 5k walk and a 10k walk next weekend.  It all begins at the Audie L. Murphy Trail head near the Historic Onion Shed. The trail was developed for the purpose of hiking, biking, walking, jogging, sight seeing and horseback riding. The paved multi-use trail is actually a 10 mile round trip or you can travel as far as 132 miles to New Boston on this secured and primitive trail which was previously used as a railroad right-of- way.  The trail is maintained by the City of Farmersville. Only a portion of the trail will be used on the 5 and 10km route so that the walkers can continue to the Historic downtown square to enjoy a bite to eat and discover the place that World War II hero Audie Murphy claimed as his hometown.  Downtown Farmersville has antiques, art, clothing and home decor for you to see. Here are just a few interesting spots to mention for planning your walk day. Thomas Kinkade Blevins Signature Gallery (Largest in Texas) and the Fiber Circle Boutique & Yarns (the largest selection of fine yarns for crochet, knitting, weaving & fiber artists in Dallas).

To participate in either of these walking events you are required to register at the start.  Registration is anytime from 9 am – until Noon.  Registration costs a mere $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at the checkpoints your card will be marked.

This is not a speed competition. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.

When you finish (anytime before 3 pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.

If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.
