Village Creek State Park Walk – Lumberton – 04/18/15

The Houston Happy Hikers are hosting this event.  There will be a 5K and a 10K walk.  This State Park is located in Hardin County on 1,090 heavily forested acres approximately 10 miles north of Beaumont. Wildlife is abundant and includes snapping turtles, white-tailed deer, diamondback water snakes, opossums, spring peepers, bull frogs and nine-banded armadillos. The Trails meander through the forest and by the creek which feeds into the Neches River. Rain is abundant in this Old Texas Big Thicket park so a raincoat might be needed.

NOTE: There is a $3.00 entry fee into the State Park in addition to the walk fee.

To participate in either of these walking events you are required to register at the start.  Registration is anytime from 9 am – until Noon.  Registration costs a mere $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at the checkpoints your card will be marked.

This is not a speed competition. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.

When you finish (anytime before 3 pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.

If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.

Start Point:  Pavilion at Village Creek State Park, 8854 Park Rd 74, Lumberton, TX.

Directions:  From Houston take I-10 to Beaumont, exit #853A onto U.S. Highway 69/96 North. Be sure to wait for the North 69/96. Exit onto Mitchell Road. Go approximately 0.4 miles on the access road and turn east (right) onto Mitchell Road. Then turn immediately north (left) onto FM 3513 (Village Creek Parkway). Go approximately two miles and turn east (right) on Alma Drive. Cross the railroad tracks (veer to the left) and continue 0.5 miles to the park entrance.

Hope to see you there!
