May 8th is World Walk Day. The Plano Walking Club is hosting this event at The Colony to celebrate. All participants are eligible to receive a special WWD certificate.
There will be a 5K and a 10K trail option. Both will make use of The Colony Shoreline Trail. The trail features a 10-foot wide, 3.5-mile stamped concrete and decomposed granite surface designed for a walk, jog or bike ride along the shores of Lewisville Lake. Rustic bridges along the trail allow visitors to enjoy natural scenery and native wildlife. Interpretive signage installed along the trail helps visitors to better understand the area. Being in a USACE wildlife management area, visitors can expect to see a variety of native flora and fauna. Interpretive panels are provided to enhance the inherent educational opportunities of the area and awareness of the natural systems.
Whether you’re an avid runner, bird watcher, mountain biker, or a family looking for a great way to enjoy an afternoon, The Colony Shoreline Trail is a great way to get into the outdoors.
To participate in either of these walking events you are required to register at the start. Registration is anytime from 8 am – until Noon. Registration costs a mere $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at the checkpoints your card will be marked.
You are NOT required to be an AVA member to participate. Everyone is welcome to come and walk with us.
When you finish (anytime before 3 pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.
If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.
