Fort Richardson State Park Walk – Jacksboro – 05/16/15

The Tarrant County Walkers are hosting this event.  There will be a 5K and a 10K trail to choose from.  The walk will include the fort site with its seven restored original buildings, including the post hospital, officers’ quarters, powder magazine, morgue, commissary, guardhouse and bakery.  There are also two replica buildings of the enlisted men’s barracks and the officer’s barracks, which houses the Interpretive Center.   From there the walk will continue on the Lost Creek Reservoir State Trail.

NOTE: There is a $3.00 entry fee into the State Park in addition to the walk fee.  PETS are ALLOWED, but not in any of the buildings.  Please be sure to keep your pet on a leash and pick up after them.

To participate in either of these walking events you are required to register at the start.  Registration is anytime from 9 am – until Noon.  Registration costs a mere $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at the checkpoints your card will be marked.

This is not a speed competition. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.

When you finish (anytime before 3 pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.

If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.

Start Point:  Fort Richardson State Park Pavilion, 228 Park Road 61, Jacksboro, TX 76458

Directions from Ft Worth:  The State Park is approximately 68 miles West of downtown Fort Worth.  Take Hwy 199 West.  Merge onto HWY 281.  Park Entrance is on the left 1/2 miles South of Jacksboro.

Hope to see you there!
