COMFORT, TX 10K EVENT – June 6

The Hill Country Volkssportsverein had planned to hold an event in Joshua Springs Park near Comfort, TX.  The park is built on a 400+ acre ranch in the Texas hill country, but it is closed due to flooding.

Due to the excess water the event has been relocated into town.  The revised route will be mainly on pavement and will traverse both town streets and rural roads.

You are required to register at the start. Registration costs $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at checkpoints your card will be marked.

You can register anytime between 7am and 11am.  Usually the start is 8-11 but due to the heat index we figured everyone would like the opportunity to start while it was cooler.

This is not a speed event. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.

When you finish (anytime before 2pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive a stamp in your record books.

If you do not as yet have an AVA record book, they will be for sale at the start/finish. Just ask for a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.

The walk routes are not the same as when I walked here in 2010, but this is an example of what you may see.

Start Point:  Comfort Community Park, 427 Main Street, Comfort, TX

Driving Directions:  From the East: Take exit 524 from I-10 W.  Follow TX-27 to Main Street.  From the West:  Take exit 523 from I-10 E.  Follow Business US-87 to FM 473.  Go West on FM 475 to Main Street.

Hope to see you there!
