The East Texas Trekkers are hosting a 5k walk and a 10k walk in Gilmer.  These events will meander past historic homes, landmarks and historic sights.  After doing the walk please join in the festivities of the Gilmer Yamboree (annual event since 1935).   Activities include an antique car show, the Queen Yam’s parade at 11:00, a carnival on the courthouse square and exhibits in Yamboree Park.

To participate in either of these walking events you are required to register at the start.  Registration is anytime from 9 am – until Noon.  Finish by 3pm.  Registration costs a mere $3.00. You will carry a start card with you and at the checkpoints your card will be marked.

You are NOT required to be an AVA member to participate.  Everyone is welcome to come and walk with us.  This is not a speed competition. You are encouraged to bring along your children and walk/talk and spend some time together enjoying the great outdoors.

When you finish (anytime before 3 pm) you turn in your start card. If you are an official Volkssporter you will have an Event and/or Distance Record Book. When you turn in your start card you will receive an official stamp in your record books.

If you do not as yet have an AVA record book but would like to start collecting these stamps, there will be books for sale at the start/finish.  Just request a new walker’s packet. The packet is $5.00 but it contains three coupons for free registration ($9.00 value) as well as both an Event and a Distance book.

Start Point:  Brookshire’s Grocery, 1800 N Wood (US-271), Gilmer, TX.
