The Colorado River Walkers out of Austin, TX are hosting this event. This walk is a unique hike through nature areas with interesting cave, fissure, and sinkhole entrances. There are very few places where the public can view so many cave locations. The 12K route will pass 34 cave entrances in 8 preserves; the 7K route will pass 18 cave entrances in 7 preserves; the 5K route will pass 12 cave entrances in 6 cave preserves. Each route will also pass through residential areas.
There is no access into the caves; they are secured and gated to ensure public safety and protect endangered species. A number of caves are quite scenic and are nice photographic opportunities along with the anticipated wild flowers at this time of year.
The routes are on residential streets and dirt paths that are rough and quite rocky in places. A walking stick is highly recommended along with a slower pace in the preserves and a careful placement of feet.
